IP Location Row count variance - 2024 to 2025

Hello everyone,

When we compare recent standard location downloads versus files downloaded last year, we are seeing a significant decrease in data:

For example, a download of standard_location CSV from 1-19-2025 was 876Mb and contained 87829251 rows.

A download of standard_location CSV from 1-19-2024 was 1.3Gb and contained 135060179 rows.

Has anyone else noticed this? Was there some event that (e.g. subnet consolidation, IANA changes) that accounts for this swing?

Thanks!

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thank you very much for posting in the community! I am glad you noticed the change.

There has been significant and continuous improvement in our subnet aggregation algorithm over the last year. Because we evaluate each IP address on an individual level, the aggregation algorithm was tricky.

No significant external event triggered the size reduction.
