# Using the official IPinfo MCP server in Claude Desktop

We are launching [our official MCP server](https://mcp.ipinfo.io/) for the [IPinfo API service](https://ipinfo.io/data). The IPinfo Official server is designed to provide a conversational layer on top of our API service with high-level functionality.

**The MCP server is under active development, so if you have any suggestions or feature requests, please let us know.**

## Setting up the MCP server in Claude Desktop

In the `mcp.ipinfo.io` URL, fill the API token section here to make configuration super smooth. The MCP server supports both paid and lite tier API access simultaneously.

Once you have pasted your IPinfo access token, you can either:

1. Press the button “Install in Claude Desktop”
2. Copy and paste the MCP configuration in Claude Desktop

After that close Claude Desktop and Re-open it. Sometimes you need to restart your PC. Then you should be able to start using IPinfo MCP Server on Claude Desktop.
